Larry the Letter Carrier hopped into Canada the other day and I began telling him about the games I like to play in the snow, and he was like, whoa mate – put it in a letter so I can share with my online friends.
My name is Susie, and I am a snowshoe rabbit with a silly little habit.

In the winter when my coat is all white, I like to play hide and seek at night!
I jump in the snow - and make you wonder where did she go?
Then I jump into the air, and you say, “there is Susie Snowshoe Hare”!
I am from Saskatchewan and like to play games from dusk to dawn.
Although I live in the wild, my manners are quite mild.
I love to jump in the snow - up I leap, and before I come down, I spread my toes and with my big back feet I don’t sink too deep.
I am a snowshoe hare, and I can jump here, there and anywhere.
When the snow melts away and the sun warms the day, the spring is a whole different thing!

My fur turns from white to brown. If I sit in front of a tree, you probably won’t see me! You can look up and down and all around, but I can’t be found!
My silly little habit being a snowshoe rabbit, some say hare, is that I like to hide here, there and everywhere!

Your friend,
Susie Snowshoe Rabbit
Do you remember? What color fur does Susie have in the winter? What color fur does she have in the spring? What game does Susie Snowshoe Rabbit like to play?
Additional tidbits: Hares and rabbits are slightly different – Susie Snowshoe is actually a hare because she is larger than a rabbit and she has longer hind legs. The snowshoe hare gets its name because they have big back feet like snowshoes! The snowshoe hare also has long ears, and they always have black tips regardless of the color of their fur.
